Tasting Flight Notes: Rettig Hill
We had the chance to sample a quartet of wines by Rettig Hill. Located in Ripley County, Indiana (close to Cincinnati), Rettig Hill has been producing estate wines for sale since 2010.
Traminette: notes of honeysuckle, rose, peach and granny smith apple. Finish contains plenty of quince and a touch of spice. Semi-sweet and in balance. Above average for Indiana Traminette. $14. 85/100
Cabernet Franc: medium-low mouthfeel, notes of plum, blackberry, vanilla, light pepper. Lightly oaked. Darker than expected, but winemaker stated blended with 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. $19. 85/100.
Dolce Bianco. Blend of Vidal Blanc, Vignoles and Traminette. Notes of apple but dominated by a sweet honey taste. Medium plus body. Finish is long and pleasant. One of the better Indiana white sweet wines. $13. 89/100
Dolce Rosso: 100% Leon Millot. Deeply colored, notes of blackberry, sour cherry, and fig. Semi-sweet with short finish. $14. 86/100
