Review: L. Mawby Redd

Located in the Leelanau Peninsula AVA (near Traverse City), L. Mawby has exclusively made sparkling wines in the traditional method for 20 years. Located a bit off the main road (M-22) their unassuming grounds belie the quality of their bubbly.
We had a chance to recently taste their semi-sweet Redd, a deep rose which is a unique blend of Marquette, Regent, Pinot Noir, Chambourcin, Marechal Foch, and Syrah. Good creamy persistent mousse, with aromas of cranberry, light toast, and cherry. Medium-light body, with violet, clove, and cooked cherries up front, giving way to strawberry and cherry on the mid-palate, with a long lingering finish of bramble fruit, almonds, and cherry. A great holiday bubbly for those who like some sweetness.
