Review: Dr. Konstantin Frank 2018 Saperavi
Saperavi is, to quote Jancis Robinson, "the quintessential Georgian variety" and one of the best wineries in the Finger Lakes makes an excellent example. We have had three different vintages of this wine, and they have all been excellent.
Color is the deep ruby color one expects (Saperavi means "dye" in Georgian), with tons of plum notes on the nose, along with anise, and light pepper. Plum and bramble fruit jam dominate the beginning, giving way to cassis, and violet on the mid-palate and baking spice, vanilla, and anise on the finish.
